about

"Moonlight is one of my oldest songs. It was written on a stoop in Vancouver on the classical guitar I was using to get my music degree. I had been practicing a Cuban lullaby in drop D for my next jury and distracted myself with the swamp blues riff that anchors the song. The song was given new life when I asked the 88 member Concert Band I direct to sing the gang vocal. Our producer Brad Perry was listening to what we had laid down for the track and said “It sounds like you’re trying to be 100 people, but you’re only 3. So unless you have access to 100 different voices at once, we need to cut that part out.” I returned a few weeks later having recorded the High School students at the end of pour last rehearsal before Christmas break. Their energy gives me goosebumps every time." - Greg Webber

lyrics

I stayed away just as long I could
Didn’t mean to cause you any harm
If you come back and let me inside
You’ll see how good I think we are

Hold your face by moonlight
Turn to me and sigh and say
“Who do you think you are?”
I seem to be tongue tied
By your smoke filled eyes
No one has to cry

I ran away just as fast as I could
I’ll be so damn far away from here
It’s so hard to go it alone
It’s a shame that you had to disappear

Hold your face by moonlight
Turn to me and sigh and say
“Who do you think you are?”
You seem to be tongue tied
And I sympathize
No one had to die.

I need some time to sit and unwind
It’s been so damn crazy up to here
I still remember the smell of your hair
And your voice is ringing in my ear.
